Water to land
Self Saving • Getting out of the water
Pool, pond, lake, habour - where ever there is water, there is a chance of falling in. And if we or our children fall in, we want to be able to get back up or hold onto a floating device.
Stairs make it easy, but what if there are no stairs? Or if we cannot swim (or do the self saving jump) to get there? Then we will have to be able to pull ourselves out of the water. We practice this from a very young age, and already at baby swimming, we start by placing the babies’ hands on the pool edge or a floating device, letting them investigate how it feels. As the babies get a little older, we help them get up (and back in), supporting them just the right amount.
Moving from baby swimming, we still practice getting ourselves out of the water - up high and low pool edges, floating devices, grown-ups - all this to get experiences with different ways of holding onto something or getting yourself out of the water. As a bonus, when you practice getting out of the water, you can also practice getting in ;-)
