Self-saving jump

Self Saving • Simple trick

Self saving jumps can be used by all ages. Before learning it, you should be familiar and comfortable with getting your head underwater.

The advantage of the self saving jump is, that you will be able to get from a to b without necessarily being able to swim or reach the bottom.

How to do it:

  1. Stand vertically in the water (feet pointing towards the bottom)
  2. Let yourself sink to the bottom (to practise this - parents can hold the child by hand in the beginning)
  3. Jump from the bottom towards the surface
  4. When your head breaks the surface, breath in, and start again.

Are you aiming to move somewhere else, e.g. a life-saving device, in point 3 you jump forward and upwards at the same time.

For practising the jump, you can also play the following games:

  • 10, 20, 30
  • Playing with bubbles (of our own making)
  • Riding a (sea)horse
